The Lighthouse by Monica Gelinas

It does not move.

It casts light to the darkness.

It points the way.

One lighthouse guides many ships.

A lighthouse stands tall, steadfast and unwavering, offering its guiding light to those navigating turbulent waters. Through storms and uncertainty, it remains a symbol of hope and direction.

Its beam pierces through the darkness, showing the way when the path is unclear. In moments of fear and doubt, the lighthouse reminds us that even the darkest nights can be illuminated.

There was a season in my life when I was enamored with lighthouses. I planned vacations in areas where I could explore them, savoring the experience. I collected numerous lighthouse mementos, my favorite is this photo by Jean Guichard.

This piece has accompanied my family on six moves beginning with my move from New Mexico to Austin in 2010. It now hangs beautifully in my guest room. I was strongly reminded this week of its powerful symbolism guiding my journey in life now, as it did over 20 years ago.

The “light” calls us back. Back to letting go of trying to rescue, to calm the waters, clearing the way of trying to perform or live up to unrealistic expectations.

Back to standing in the midst of a storm, watching, unmoved. Back to fully embracing my identity to be a “light” to others who may need hope and guidance.

I am grateful for these recurring symbols in life to ground me, anchor me on a Rock.

When I am grounded, I can receive.

When I can receive, joy, peace, love and fulfillment find their way to my heart and soul. And consequently, flow freely into the hearts of others.

At CC4C, we understand that rare conditions bring not only medical complexities but also emotional struggles.

That's why our programs are designed to provide families with the resources they need to face these challenges with resilience and hope.

From personalized support networks, peer to peer connection groups, financial medical assistance and well-being programs, we strive to create moments of joy, understanding, and belonging.

Through our community, families find strength in knowing they are not alone. They connect with others who understand their journey, share their experiences, and offer invaluable support.

Together, we celebrate every milestone, big or small, illuminating the path forward with courage and determination.

But our mission doesn't end here. There are still countless families in need of support—families who are searching for answers and a sense of belonging.

With your help, we can extend our light to even more children and families.

By raising awareness, volunteering your time, or making a donation, you become a part of our mission to bring comfort, connection, and empowerment to those who need it most.

Let’s continue to light the way for children with rare and undiagnosed conditions. Because with every act of kindness, every moment of support, and every story shared, we make their world a little brighter.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. Psalm 18:2
