When people hear the word legacy, they often think of something left behind, like a name on a building, a major accomplishment, or a contribution that changes the world.
But the most meaningful legacies are rarely built in a single moment. They're built in the everyday choices to show up. To love deeply. To keep going when the road is hard. To make sure someone else feels seen, supported, and less alone. The silent battles faced that shift families and communities.
When you ask someone who has been touched by CC4C, they will tell you that a legacy is built one relationship at a time and every single day.
For Nikki's dad, Azat Salikhov, legacy began with one little girl.

From the moment she was born, Nikki faced significant medical challenges. She experienced a congenital heart defect, Autism Spectrum Disorder, severe reflux, developmental delays, and a growing list of complex diagnoses that led her family on a years-long search for answers. Genetic testing eventually revealed the underlying cause: a rare chromosome deletion, 10q22.3q23.2, resulting in the loss of more than 100 genes.
Needless to say, the family had quite a path to walk.
For more than four years, Nikki has been part of the CC4C family. If you’ve ever met her, you know she is impossible to forget. She walks into a room full of joy, confidence, and a spark that draws people in. With her booming voice and laugh, she runs up to anyone with CC4C, ready to hug and ask how things have been going.
She’s the kind of person who isn’t afraid to try something new, dance when the music starts, or take on a challenge that might seem impossible.
At our recent CC4C family retreat hosted by Be An Angel, Nikki soared down a zipline with a smile on her face and courage in her heart.
That’s who Nikki is.
And in many ways, that’s who her dad has taught her to be.
Because behind every fearless child is often someone who has spent years helping them believe that they can do hard things.
But Nikki’s story is closely intertwined with her dad’s story. This Father’s Day, we want to celebrate the legacy that Azat has been building, not just for Nikki, but for every CC4C family.
Showing Up Time and Time Again
Like so many fathers in the CC4C community, Azat didn't choose this particular journey. Nikki's father didn't ask for the uncertainty, the appointments, the diagnoses, or the challenges that come with raising a child with a rare condition. But he chose how he would respond. He chose to show up and to show up with strength, love, and support. Not only for Nikki, but for other families walking a similar road.
Through CC4C's TRIBE 4 Dads program, he found a community with fathers who understand the unique weight and responsibility that comes with this journey. More importantly, he became a source of encouragement and support for others who needed someone to walk alongside them. Men in the group have commented that it is life-changing to have other men come together to just “be.” For others to understand their unique challenge and be able to talk about their experiences and challenges openly, but also to have a reprieve.

He also played an active role in the Baker Triangle Golf Tournament and helped strengthen the CC4C community in ways that extend far beyond any single event, bringing in others in the local community and demonstrating the importance of supporting families facing rare and undiagnosed conditions.

One of his most meaningful contributions was creating the CC4C Family Directory. At first glance, it may seem simple. But for a family who feels isolated, overwhelmed, or unsure where to turn, a connection to someone who truly understands can change everything.
What Azat created wasn't just a directory. He created a bridge. A way for families to find one another and a reminder that no one has to carry this journey alone.
That's legacy.
Nikki’s Next Chapter
Today, Nikki is stepping into a new season of life through the Bridges 18+ Program, recently featured on CBS Austin. The Bridges Brew & Boutique, offered through Georgetown ISD, provides an opportunity for young adults with disabilities to prepare for life beyond the classroom. Through employment training, independent living skills, and community engagement, the program helps young adults build confidence for what's next.
Nikki has shared that it’s a great program for her and helping her to step into her desire to be a star barista.
While Nikki's time as a CC4C child may be evolving, the impact she and her family have had on this community continues. Because legacy doesn't end when one chapter closes. It continues in every life that has been touched along the way.
"Nikki has taught me that strength doesn't always look the way you expect. Sometimes it looks like showing up every day with a smile, even when life is hard. Watching her has made me want to help other families find the same hope we've found through CC4C. One day, people may forget my name, but I know they’ll never forget how Nikki made them feel. If I can continue to carry that light forward for other families, that is the legacy I want to leave behind."

What Legacy Looks Like
This Father's Day, we're celebrating fathers like Azat Salikhov. The fathers who advocate when no one else understands. The fathers who sit through appointments, ask hard questions, and carry burdens few people see. The fathers who love their children so fiercely that they can't help but create a better path for the families coming behind them.
Legacy isn't what you leave behind someday. It's what you build every day.
It's the relationships you invest in and the hope you create through your time, the joy you bring, and the support you continue to give even through difficult times.
And because of fathers like Azat, countless families in the CC4C community know exactly what that kind of legacy looks like.
To every father who continues to show up, love deeply, and build a future filled with hope for their children and others, we celebrate you.
Happy Father's Day from the entire CC4C family.
