Family, faith, and meaningful connections are central to Ryland’s life, and he truly shines when surrounded by loved ones.
Ryland and his identical twin were born four weeks prematurely in Las Vegas due to complications from preeclampsia and concerns about growth. Following a difficult birth, he spent five weeks in the NICU, during which he faced challenges such as an absent sucking reflex and a low Apgar score. Subsequent medical evaluations identified a heart defect (atrial septal defect), hypospadias, and feeding difficulties that contributed to failure to thrive. Further genetic testing revealed a rare chromosomal anomaly involving missing material on chromosome 4 and additional material on chromosome 6.
By kindergarten, Ryland was diagnosed with an intellectual disability and began receiving specialized educational support. He excels both academically and through his involvement in the Special Olympics. Ryland embraces his diagnosis with pride, openly sharing his unique story and inspiring those around him. Though he may face social challenges, his determination and vibrant personality bring warmth and connection wherever he goes.
