Nathan is a sweet and affectionate boy with a silly sense of humor who captures the hearts of those he meets.

His parents knew shortly after he was born that something wasn’t right. He was taken to the NICU and, as the days and weeks unfolded, his family learned of medical abnormalities affecting his brain, spine, heart, and kidneys. At two weeks old, they received his official diagnosis and were devastated as this was not the life they had envisioned for their son.

His family shares, “Nathan has become our teacher. He is continually teaching us about unconditional love and patience. He has proven his worth, not by what he accomplishes, but by being present in our lives. It is a joy to know him. Our life is beautiful, and we do believe that Nathan is a gift from God, true to the meaning of the name Nathan.”

Nathan eats primarily through a feeding tube, walks short distances, and can bike in his cul-de-sac with his adaptive trike. Though Nathan is nonverbal, he can get his point across rather effectively through his body language, eye contact, adapted sign language, and his AAC device. Even though he can’t talk, he has a great sense of humor.
