Evelyn is an extraordinary child who lives with one of the most severe and medically complex cases of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) her specialists have encountered. MCAS is a rare immune and histamine disorder causing unpredictable, sometimes life-threatening, reactions that can affect nearly every organ system. Constant vigilance is needed to protect her from reactions.

At six weeks old, Evelyn's skin erupted into painful, bleeding sores from head to toe. She lived in a constant cycle of severe allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, and breathing emergencies. For her first three years, leaving the house was nearly impossible. Her family transformed every aspect of their lives including their foods, clothing, and household products, to keep her alive. Her family continues to protect her from dangerous triggers and she often must watch life from the sidelines.

Evelyn's spirit is unbreakable and this year she reached milestones her family worried might never happen, including gymnastics and group activities. She meets every challenge with courage, determination, and hope. Every new experience is a victory she fought hard to earn and she is an inspiration to all who know her.
