Amelia is a joyful, loving, and kind girl whose smile lights up every room she enters. She is funny, social, determined, and known for giving the biggest hugs. Whether she’s laughing at silly sounds, soaring on a swing, or splashing in the pool, Amelia has a special way of helping everyone around her find joy in little things.
Amelia was born with DYRK1A syndrome, an ultra-rare genetic condition that affects brain development, learning, speech, muscle tone, and overall development. Only about 1,000 individuals have been diagnosed worldwide. Although doctors knew something wasn’t quite right from birth, her family spent four years searching for answers before finally receiving her diagnosis.
Through years of occupational and speech therapy and Early Childhood Intervention, she has accomplished something her family once only dreamed of; she can talk. Every new word, skill, and milestone reflect her determination.
Amelia’s joyful heart, resilience, and unconditional love leave everyone she meets a little happier than before. Her family’s greatest hope is that she will continue to grow and reach new milestones while always feeling loved, accepted, and included.
