Caleb's Story

Updated: Oct 28, 2020

Caleb was a CC4C child in 2014, and has now become an alumni. Caleb recently accepted an academic and athletic scholarship to Indiana Tech. He is still being treated monthly for ITP.

Hear what Caleb has to say about life with a rare disorder:

"As a person with a rare disorder, it’s easy for me to focus on the things that I can’t do. It’s frustrating when I’m invited to do things with my friends or invited to play sports by coaches, and I have to tell them no because of a condition that I can’t control. If I had a dollar every time I’ve had to say, “No I can’t because I have Chronic Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura,” I could be funding cure research right now. Thanks to CC4C, I no longer focus on the things that I can’t do. Instead, I focus on the things that I can do. I’ve been on many teams throughout my life, but no team has ever made me feel the way that CC4C does. It’s more than just a foundation, CC4C is a family. CC4C made me realize that I can still do incredible things, even with my disorder. I’ll never forget when the Round Rock High School basketball team sponsored me, something that couldn’t have happened without the help of CC4C. They made me feel like one of their teammates, which led to me actually playing on the Round Rock basketball team 3 years later. I continue to be inspired every time I see the marathon medals Talaya earned for me many years ago hanging up in my room. Those medals will be making the trip to Indiana Tech with me and keep reminding me not to think about what I can’t do, but to focus on what I can do. I’m excited to take on college as a student-athlete and continue to represent CC4C in everything that I do."
