Chief Development Officer

The Team and the Role: Although the word RARE would indicate otherwise, there are actually 30 million Americans living with a rare disease – that’s 1 in 10! More than half are children. Our mission at Cheyanna’s Champions 4 Children (CC4C) is to enhance the quality of life for children in Texas with rare and undiagnosed conditions. We are a faith-based organization that offers financial provisions for medical expenses not covered by insurance, support and connection to resources, and moments of joy and hope through unforgettable memory-making experiences! Over the past 10 years, we’ve built an incredible support network to uplift children and families facing health crises and rare conditions.


As we transition from Founder-driven to the next generation of leadership, we’re looking for someone who can strategically drive our fundraising and communications to increase awareness of rare conditions and brand visibility, as well as build new partnerships. Our end goals are increased donations, volunteers, new community supports for our kids, and outreach to new families. You’ll drive both strategy and some hands-on implementation with the support of an administrative team, fundraising savvy- Founder and CEO, and engaged volunteers.


Opportunity: As CC4C’s chief revenue and engagement strategist and key member of the leadership team, this role is responsible for developing and leading execution of our fundraising and communications strategy. Working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and other volunteers, responsibilities include managing existing fundraising programs, growing our annual fund, building a major gifts program, maximizing return on investment of events, and overseeing foundation and corporate giving strategies. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive multi-channel communication strategy to support fundraising, volunteers and outreach.


Responsibilities and Expectations:



  • Create and implement a data-driven, annual Development Plan with clear goals, strategies, metrics and timelines for all revenue streams

  • Effectively communicate with a portfolio of current and prospective donors both virtually and in person about CC4C giving opportunities and impact

  • Actively engage Board of Directors, volunteers, event committees, CC4C families/alumni, partnering organizations, donors, etc. around organization mission and development plan

  • Grow annual giving through recently launched Sponsor A Child program

  • Lead staff and volunteers in managing all logistics and fundraising strategy for Night 2 Uplift and Parade 2 Uplift events, including development strategy and benchmarks to optimize event revenue

  • Manage peer-to-peer fundraising strategy and giving platforms for Teen Advocates 4 Children program

  • Manage existing Third-Party event partnerships and expand new Third Party opportunities

  • Increase grants giving, managing all aspects of prospect research, proposal writing and reporting requirements

  • Work with Founder and Executive Director to build corporate relationships/giving

  • Lay groundwork for a successful Major Gifts program, to include identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gift prospects

  • Work with support staff to maintain donor database and tracking systems



  • Develop annual multi-channel communications strategy and calendar to support Development Plan and programmatic goals

  • Strengthen organization branding on all aspects of communications – including web presence, year-round collateral, event specific collateral, and external relations

  • Develop clear and consistent brand messaging and serve as organizational spokesperson, along with Founder and Executive Director

  • Develop and produce an annual impact report

  • Work with support staff to produce email marketing and social media campaigns and content

  • Increase visibility of organization  by being active and visible in the community and engaging with other nonprofit, civic, and professional organizations

  • Establish and maintain relationships with people and organizations that can help strategically advance CC4C’s mission and revenue goals

  • Communicate mission impact effectively

  • Support with strategic planning process and maintain accountability for assigned goals/strategies/metrics

  • Other duties as assigned

  • At least 5 years of development/communications-related experience in leadership roles

  • Track record of demonstrated fundraising success (both hands-on and strategy), including individual, corporate, and foundation giving, as well as special events.

  • Experience working with children, education, children’s programming or child-focused non-profit work is a plus.
